Robert Emery Muzzy Jr., 74
Robert E. "Bob" Muzzy Jr., was born in Baker, Ore., on March 28, 1937, to Robert E. and Ruby J. Muzzy. He passed away at his home in Spokane surrounded by family on Jan. 14, 2012, after a short battle with lung cancer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sons Cameron D. Muzzy and Robert W. "Bobby" Muzzy, and first wife Cara Lee Muzzy.
Survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Karen; and children Shari Muzzy of Coeur d'Alene, Kathy and Bill Meister of Scottsdale, Ariz., Shaun Muzzy of Spokane and Dawn Exline of Huntington Beach, Calif.; as well as step-children Mike and Tami Gaffney of Benicia, Calif., Bill and Becky Gaffney of Spokane, Terri and Darryl Christensen of Spokane, and Jenny and Blake Harp of Washougal, Wash. He is also survived by siblings Donna Glanville (Roger), Syd Muzzy (Karen) and Jude Guyer (Tom); along with 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was raised in Sandpoint and graduated from North Central High School in Spokane in 1955. During his high school years he started working for his grandfather who was a commissioned agent for Standard Oil Co. in Clyde, Wash. He later took over his grandfather's position and in 1971 moved his family to Coeur d'Alene. In 1980 he bought out Chevron's interest in the business and continued to own and operate Muzzy Oil Co. until his retirement in 2002.
Bob served as a jet mechanic in the Air National Guard and was a longtime member of the Lion's Club. He loved to play golf wherever he traveled, especially the courses of Maui. He was a collector of wine with a special affection for classic Port.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 3520 E. 18th Ave., Spokane. Private inurnment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
