Chiefs rally past Thunderbirds

SPOKANE - Cole Wedman's goal at 6:22 of the third period snapped a 4-all tie and the Spokane Chiefs defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-4 in Western Hockey League action in front of 7,810 at the Spokane Arena on Friday night.

Dylan Walchuk scored on an assist from Wedman and Post Falls native Tanner Mort to give Spokane (31-16-4-3, 69 points) a 1-0 lead after the first period.

The game was tied at 3-all with one period remaining after goals from Mike Aviani and Collin Valcourt helped counter three second-period goals from Seattle, which regained the lead at 4:40 of the third on a goal from Branden Troock.

Marek Kalus answered for Spokane 1:07 later, tying the game with his 15th goal of the season.

Spokane hosts Tri-City tonight at the Spokane Arena at 7.
