Each of our stuffed toys is carefully handcrafted in Peru from real alpaca, an unbelievably soft cousin of the llama. Alpaca are native to the high Andes Mountains of South America. Domesticated for centuries by the Inca of Peru, their precious fleece was worn only by royalty. Alpaca produce more than 20 natural shades of a fiber that is soft like cashmere and contains no lanolin, so many people with wool sensitivities have no adverse reaction to alpaca. Most of our stuffed toys are made from Huacaya alpaca, which produce a short, fluffy fur. However, we do have a few toys made from the rare Suri alpaca, which produce a distinctive silky, shaggy fur. Both are incredibly soft to the touch - each alpaca fiber is less than one fourth the width of a human hair!
