SHOOTERS: Turn tables on them

| December 14, 2012 11:39 PM

I just read about yet another shooting tragedy in a Portland, Ore., mall. What a coward the shooter was. It’s heartbreaking to think of what the families of the victims have lost.

I want to throw out another possibility for all of us to think about. Why do we as a people think that the best way to respond to attacks like this is to run, hide or plead with these scumbags to not shoot us? This shooting only ended when this guy’s gun apparently jammed. Not sure of the details yet.

Remember at a recent school shooting when a teacher rushed the shooter and apprehended him, saving an untold number of lives? What a brave act! Why isn’t that the normal response to these cowardly attacks? If more of us lived with a combat mind-set, would get training and legally carry concealed weapons, then the tables would be turned on anyone who might dare to harm people who are doing nothing more than shopping for Christmas!

I have not been in that situation, but I fully intend to have other options than hope the guy misses me or his gun jams. And you can bet that if someone threatens my wife or my daughters, or someone elses’ wife or daughters near me, my concealed handgun will at least give me an option to take the fight to him.

Anyone else with me?
