Fundraiser to help provide wigs

| December 12, 2012 8:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - Buy some clothes, get a great deal, and provide a wig.

A fundraiser scheduled 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Haute/Mess, 6190 N. Sunshine St. will offer folks a chance to do exactly that.

Shop owner Chelsea Piper said for $10, people can fill a bag with donated clothes. Proceeds will go to Erris Hair Wigs of Love Inc., a nonprofit started by Piper to assist cancer victims who lost their hair by providing them with wigs.

The Coeur d'Alene woman recently gave the first wig from her project to a breast cancer patient.

She provides the wigs for free, and hopes to eventually have them available in hospitals and cancer centers as Erris Hair Wigs of Love Inc. grows.

Piper said she started the nonprofit after a young woman came into her business, Erris Hair, that offers wigs and hair extensions.

The woman, who had lost her hair, began crying as she tried on a wig.

"This is how my husband remembers me," she told Piper.

"It was a heartfelt moment and I wanted to do something," Piper said.
