Phillip Onnie Joki, 78

Phillip Onnie Joki, 78, passed away peacefully Aug. 26, 2012, at the family home. Phil was born Aug. 22, 1934, in Coeur d’Alene to Lillian Streeter Joki and Onnie Joki.

He grew up in Pine Creek and moved to Coeur d’Alene where he graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1952. He worked at Kaiser before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He worked in the Pentagon from 1957-1959. After his discharge, he returned to Coeur d’Alene and began his logging career. He worked for numerous loggers including Roth Brothers. Soon after Phil and his dad, Onnie, started Joki Logging Inc.

He logged for IFI (Idaho Forest Industries) and was a member of the Associated Logging Contractors, attending many loggers Fairs. He was also a member of the Hayden Lake Eagles.

In 1965 he met the love of his life, Joyce Blankenship Spooner and they were married Nov. 5, 1966.

He loved watching the Mariners, the Seahawks and Gonzaga Basketball and enjoyed bowling and fishing.

Phil is survived by his wife, Joyce, at home; his children, Rick Spooner of Coeur d’Alene, Stephanie Spooner Bogar of Coeur d’Alene and Lisa Brooks (Bill) of Coeur d’Alene. He is also survived by his pride and joy, his grandsons, Nick and Tanner Bogar, and Derek Brooks, all of Coeur d’Alene. He was the best husband, dad and grandpa anyone could ask for. “We will miss you and love you forever.”

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Onnie Joki.

At Phil’s request, no services will be held. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
