As a Coeur d'Alene High graduate, Travis Georgius had six years to get used to the "LC" on his baseball cap after joining the Lewis-Clark State College team as a player.

Now, Georgius will don the cap of the Lake City Timberwolves after being named their varsity baseball coach on Thursday.

"I'm pretty excited about it," said Georgius, who teaches science at Lake City High. "One of the reasons why I chose here (to teach) was because I thought I had the chance to coach. I didn't think it would happen right away, but I had the chance to apply and thought I had a good chance of getting it."

He replaces Al Bevacqua, who resigned after three years as coach.

Georgius, 24, coached three years in the Coeur d'Alene American Legion program, one year as the under-16 Lakers and as an assistant of the class AA Loggers. He also was an assistant coach of the Club Spokane Dodgers U18 team this summer.

"It was a good experience," Georgius said. "There was a lot of things I got to know after being thrown right into the fire. Working with the Lumbermen, it was good to get to work with some of the older kids."

The former Viking is very familiar with his new program.

"I've known (former LC coach) Cory (Bridges) since I was 8-years old," Georgius said. "And I was a bat boy for the Coeur d'Alene program for a few years. When I took the job at Lake City, I knew I wanted to be a head coach at some point, and Cory's been great with support in that nature. It's kind of nice to have him to pick his brain. And I've also gotten plenty of flack from my Coeur d'Alene (High) friends - and they're not shy about it."

"Travis is a great young man," Lake City athletic director Jim Winger said. "Hopefully he'll bring some enthusiasm and energy to our program and bring some interest for baseball at Lake City."

Lake City went 5-15 last season.

"I'm excited," Georgius said. "I've got some ideas of where I want the program to go. My first priority is getting some assistants that I can count on. I'm excited of where the program is at. I want to bring some excitement back, and I'm kind of looking forward to taking on that challenge."
