PREP SOCCER: Cox's hat trick propels St. Maries past Priest River

PRIEST RIVER - Dillon Cox recorded a hat trick for St. Maries, which outshot Priest River 28-1 on the way to a 7-0 win in the Intermountain League opener for both schools Tuesday.

Jesse Suchoski scored on two solo goals and assisted Cox in the 36th minute for St. Maries (2-1-0, 1-0 IML), which travels to Bonners Ferry on Thursday.

"We're learning to believe we can do it," St. Maries coach Chris Renaldo said. "In the second half we tried to focus on moving the ball and let the scoring opportunities present themselves."

Priest River (0-1, 0-1 IML) hosts Orofino on Friday.

POST FALLS - Timmy Mueller scored two goals as the Trojans beat the Bulldogs in a nonleague match.

"They're a good, tough team and played us tough in the first half," Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. "We were able to hold on and scored another goal, but it was a hard-fought match and very physical."

Post Falls (4-0) will host Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday.

Anthony Fox scored in the 79th minute for Sandpoint (2-2), which hosts Coeur d'Alene on Thursday.

MOSCOW - Bekah Brendis scored on a free kick in the 63rd minute as the Vikings edged the Bears in a nonleague game at Moscow Junior High.

Coeur d'Alene trailed 2-1 at halftime and tied the game on a goal by Brittany Tackett early in the second half.

"The team really stepped up to the challenges we set out for ourselves at practice yesterday (Monday)," Coeur d'Alene coach Tarragh Carr said. "The goals they scored were on simple mistakes by us. We were really proud of how the girls played. They battled a full 80 minutes."

Coeur d'Alene (1-1) hosts Sandpoint on Thursday.

Aneesah Gondo had 12 saves for Post Falls (4-1), which hosts Lake City on Thursday.

Makayla Sundquist had eight saves for Sandpoint (1-0-2), which travels to Coeur d'Alene on Thursday.

BONNERS FERRY - Liz Racer and Abby Skeen scored unassisted goals for the Badgers in an Intermountain League win over the Tigers.

"Bonners Ferry is everything I thought they would be," Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. "I think we could play better and hope we play them better when they come down here, but it's nice to get that first (league) loss out of the way. Now we can refocus and can stick with our game plan."

Koral Yeager had seven saves for Timberlake (2-2-0, 2-1 IML), which travels to Orofino on Thursday.

Bonners Ferry improves to 2-0, 2-0.
