Idaho men's basketball team

releases 2012-13 schedule

MOSCOW - Idaho head men's basketball coach Don Verlin announced his team's 2012-13 schedule on Tuesday, and he wasn't shy about the quality of the slate.

"It's the best schedule we've had since I've been here, bar none," the fifth-year coach said. "We've got some great preseason games, and it really starts with our exhibition games. We have some great early-season home games, and then we go to Washington State, New Mexico and UTEP - those are three very, very good teams to play on the road."

Idaho's non-conference home schedule includes Montana, Wright State, Green Bay, UC Davis and Walla Walla University, in addition to home exhibition games against Seattle Pacific and Central Washington.

Idaho will play Boise State on Dec. 20 at CenturyLink Arena.

The Vandals' first away game is at New Mexico on Nov. 23, and Idaho travels to Washington State on Nov. 28. The Vandals also face Eastern Washington (Dec. 6) and UTEP (Dec. 8) away from home.

Idaho returns eight players, including second-team all-Western Athletic Conference center Kyle Barone, a senior, and sophomore guard Connor Hill from Post Falls High.

Idaho opens WAC play at conference newcomer Seattle U on Dec. 29, followed by trips to San Jose State and Utah State. The team's WAC home opening weekend will be Thursday and Saturday, Jan. 10-12, when the Vandals host Denver and New Mexico State at the Cowan Spectrum.

Eastern volleyball coach resigns; Westlake named

interim coach

CHENEY - Eastern Washington volleyball coach Miles Kydd has resigned due to personal reasons, the school announced.

Lisa Westlake, the associate head coach, will serve as interim coach for the duration of the season and an official search will commence once the season is complete.

Kydd will be leaving the program after nine years as a member of the Eagle coaching staff and was named head coach in January of 2008 after four years as an assistant and complied a 57-60 overall and 40-25 record in the Big Sky Conference. In his first year in 2008, he was selected as the Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Eagles to a regular season title. Eastern advanced to the postseason in three of his four years.

Westlake is in her fifth season with the Eagles and was promoted to associate head coach in 2012.

Prior to Eastern, she was director of operations at Gonzaga University for the 2007 season and was a volunteer assistant coach the year before. She played volleyball at Oregon from 1983-84, and helped lead her team to the Sweet 16 in 1984.
