Herbert K. Mikkelson, 91

Herbert K. Mikkelson, 91, of Coeur d’Alene, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 24, 2012. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Mick was born in Bonners Ferry to Einer and Milla Mikkelson on March 2, 1921.

Mick graduated from Newport, Wash., high school in 1939. He was A World War II veteran, and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the South Pacific. After the war, Mick married Laura Falsetto on May 29, 1948, and they were married for 55 years before Laura’s death in 2002. They lived 28 years in Thompson Falls and Plains, Mont., before moving to Kootenai County in 1983. Mick worked primarily in the lumber industry until his retirement.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Mikkelson (Denice) of Ronald, Wash., and John Mikkelson (Rhonda) of Frenchtown, Mont.; a daughter, Vernie Hodges (Jim) of Pahrump, Nev.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

The viewing will be held from 2-5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home, 423 W. Second St., Newport. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River, with a reception to follow in Coeur d’Alene at the Blackwell Island RV Resort recreation hall.

The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior project.org.
