Fire evacuees get brief chance to visit homes
BOISE (AP) - Authorities are giving residents of Pine and Featherville a brief window of opportunity to go back home to check on their property and gather belongings.
Trinity Ridge Fire managers say evacuees can return to their homes and cabins for a couple of hours Tuesday. So far, no properties have been damaged, but the evacuation order remains in effect due to heavy smoke in the region.
The fire ignited Aug. 3, has burned more than 200 square miles and is just five percent contained.
Meanwhile, fire crews battling the Mustang Complex Fire north of Salmon rescued a bear cub that suffered second-degree burns to its paws. The cub is being transported Tuesday to a wildlife care center in McCall.
The Mustang Complex Fire has now burned more than 233-square miles.
