Levy votes today

Voters in the Coeur d'Alene, Lakeland and Kootenai school districts will head to the polls today to vote on tax measures that if approved, will provide financing for school facilities improvements.

Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voters in Coeur d'Alene are being asked to consider a $32.7 million, 13-year bond that will pay for major renovations at five schools, and for technology and air quality equipment upgrades throughout the district.

The Coeur d'Alene measure must receive 66 and two-thirds percent of the votes cast to pass, as must a bond being floated before voters in the Kootenai Joint School District.

Kootenai voters will consider a $2 million measure to finance a wastewater treatment project.

Lakeland Joint School District voters will consider a 5-year plant levy that will provide $800,000 annually to fund building repairs, energy efficiency improvements, equipment, buses and classroom furniture. The Lakeland measure needs 55 percent voter approval for successful passage.

Schools in Idaho do not receive state funding to build or renovate schools. Local taxpayers must approve debt financing for such endeavors, and the funds cannot be used for any other purpose.

Voters must go to their designated polling places. Not all precincts will be used for this election and some precincts have been combined due to low voter registration numbers. Voters can find their designated polling place at www.kcgov.us/elections or by calling 446-1030.
