SALUTE: On city flagpole decision

| August 26, 2012 9:00 PM

I would like to thank Council member Goodlander for her putting the issue of residential flagpoles in front of the City Council on Tuesday the 24th. Through her work on the Public Works Committee and the discussion of the entire council on Tuesday, the permit fee was waived. It was also decided that the entire council would look into the issue of residential flagpoles in the future.

I would also like to thank CBO Ed Wagner for his explanation of the International Building Code for flagpoles and his wanting every flagpole to be erected in a safe manner. It seems that there is no distinction between a 17 foot 2 inch aluminum flagpole and the huge ones in front of our city buildings. I do hope that the state legislature takes up this matter and uses some common sense that allows anyone to fly the American Flag in their yard without a permit.
