August E. Harms, 93, of Rathdrum, passed away Aug. 24, 2012 at Ivy Court in Coeur d’Alene. He was born May 27, 1919 in Tekoa, Wash., to Henry and Ruby (Bundy) Harms. August grew up in Tekoa where he began working on cars at a young age. His passion for fixing automobiles became a life-long career which included owning his own businesses in Spokane and Rathdrum and then 30 years working as the Supervisor of Transportation for the Lakeland School District.

On July 19, 1941 he married Anna (Nagel) in Otis Orchards. Together they raised two sons, Robert and John and two daughters, Kathryn and Barbara. August enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and riding his motorcycle.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Augusta Jane, his parents, two brothers and three sisters. August is survived by his wife, Anna; two sons: Robert (Judy) Harms and John Harms; two daughters: Kathryn (Dale) Potter and Barbara (Dick) Scott; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; one sister and numerous nieces and nephews.
