STICKER: Shock at bad placement
I saw one of the most disrespectful front pages of The Press last Saturday that I can ever recall.
The headline article complete with photo was supposed to feature the story of a local fallen hero, Spc. Ethan Martin, but what I found instead was a oversize sticker for a “Savings EXTRAVANZA” for a furniture store plastered over the photo and headline so you could not see either clearly.
As a parent who has lost an adult child and who also has had two of our other children go into harm’s way for several tours between them in the military I am perhaps particularly sensitive to the incredible insensitivity shown by this thoughtless action. But I’m guessing any veteran or family of a vet would feel much the same as I do.
What was someone thinking? How could whatever ad revenue this tasteless spectacle generated be worth what it said to the family and friends of this young man who gave his all for us, let alone your other readers? What kind of a negative impression does it create for the advertiser?
I trust this will be corrected to never happen again and appropriate apologies are communicated to his family.
