Jam4 Cans to help food banks

Those wishing to help replenish the shelves of local food banks can see some action on Hayden Lake at the same time.
The annual Jam 4 Cans benefit for the Post Falls Food Bank and Community Action Partnership of Coeur d'Alene will be held on Sunday from 1-7 p.m. at Camp MiVoden on Hayden Lake.
The event is sponsored by Summit Northwest Ministries and attendees are encouraged to bring whatever food donations or funds they wish to donate to the nonprofits.
"We're really hoping to inspire our community to use their resources to help those in need," said Caleb Foss, event organizer and Summit Northwest associate pastor.
Jam 4 Cans includes wakeboarders, wakeskaters and stand-up paddleboarders raising awareness about the need to help local food banks. There will be a rail jam and paddleboard race, food, raffles and contests.
A similar event last spring featured 30 riders and more than 300 spectators.
Last summer was Summit's first lake event on Newman Lake.
"This year we have moved the event to Hayden Lake and partnered with Camp MiVoden for a bigger and better event than last year," Foss said.
The blue-green algae alert on Hayden has been lifted and didn't apply to the contest area anyway, Foss said.
A receipt for donated food items or funds can be provided for tax deductions if desired.

* Another way to help the two food banks, along with the Rathdrum Food Bank, is to buy a $5 or $10 bag of food at Super 1 Foods stores and receive $1 off admission price to the North Idaho Fair today. The bags will be distributed to the food banks and the fair coupons are redeemable at the fair ticket booth.
