BELIEF: Science can't tell story
Lots of mail recently about atheism and atheists. For the record I have no problem (only sympathy) with either but I do want to make one issue clear.
A letter or two implies that science has explained all without God. Many others, possibly realizing that this is not so, imply that science will provide all answers soon. My advice? Don’t hold your breath. Science has not and can not disprove (or prove for that matter) the existence of God. He is outside the bounds of science as any true scientist will attest. The thrust today is to explain the universe without reliance on God. But even if this were achieved it would not disprove the existence of God. And thus far, I might note, this has not been achieved. The Big Bang theory-the best they have up to now-does not explain what, exactly, went bang and what made it go bang. (Please don’t bring up Stephen Hawking’s latest effort. He seems all alone on this one.)
One specific note-one letter referred to God’s creation of Eve from Adam’s rib and stated: we all know this is not possible. This would be laughable if it were not tragic. We attack the existence of an all powerful being by claiming that something He did is not possible? Another definition of insanity perhaps. As for me I believe He could have created Eve out of the little toe nail of Adam’s left foot (or out of nothing) if He so chose. If not then He’s not all powerful and then who are we talking about?
Who was it said: “In the beginning God created man in His own image and ever since man has been trying to return the favor.”
