Elections office to test counters

The Kootenai County Elections Department will perform a routine "logic and accuracy test" on the optical scan ballot counters before Tuesday's school election, and the test is open for public observation.

The testing will take place Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Kootenai County Elections Office, 1808 N. Third St., Coeur d'Alene.

"Interested parties are welcome to come and witness the test," said Kootenai County Clerk Cliff Hayes, in a statement sent out by his office. "This is a verification of the equipment and programming before we begin actual ballot counting on election night."

Voters in the Coeur d'Alene and Kootenai Joint school districts are being asked to consider financing for bonds, and the Lakeland district is putting a school plant facilities levy before voters.

The deadline for absentee requests by mail was Wednesday. The absentee ballot can be downloaded from the Elections Department's page on the county's website: www.kcgov.us/elections/AbsenteeBallotApplication.pdf.

In-person absentee voting will continue at the Elections office in Coeur d'Alene until 5 p.m. Friday.

The office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
