Catherine Crockett Godbold, 98
Catherine Crockett Godbold, 98, joined her family in heaven Aug. 15, 2012. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, April 13, 1914, and grew up in the islands with her four brothers and one sister. She married Norman Dozier Godbold, Jr., and raised three boys, Norman, Thomas and James (Kimo).
After the Pearl Harbor attack, she and her three children, a 6-year-old, 20-month-old and 2-month-old, relocated to Phoenix, Ariz. while her husband remained to serve out his term as Territorial Treasurer. She and her family returned to Hawaii in 1944 where she opened Catherine’s Anticipation Shop specializing in maternity cloths. She successfully ran the business until 1959 when health forced her into an early retirement. Catherine and Norman moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1985.
She had a talent for art, and was accomplished at modeling clay. She and her husband enjoyed traveling in their retirement years, and made frequent trips to Australia to visit their oldest son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons. She is survived by her brother, Mortimer, remaining son, Thomas, daughter-in-law, Margret, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at St. Pius X Church, 625 E. Haycraft Avenue. She will be interred at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Cemetery in a private ceremony and will lay next to her husband.
