SENIORS: Are you bored?

| August 17, 2012 9:00 PM

Now that you are 55 or older do you sometimes need something to do?

VOLUNTEER — The RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) gives you that opportunity.

In particular I work with all the elementary schools in Kootenai County. I also look for volunteers for Juvenile Probation, CASA, Adult Basic Ed., Project CDA and New Visions in Post Falls.

The best investment you will ever make is the investment in another human being…mentoring is that investment.

The schools are prepared to utilize your skills and experience. I want to welcome all returning people and new volunteers.

Do you know that older adults who volunteer enjoy happier and healthier lives? They have better assessments than non-volunteers in measures of well-being, including functional status, self-rated health and absence of depression.

So basically, that’s what my job with RSVP is all about. I help to recruit seniors to volunteer and place them in the above locations to do their volunteer experience, and then keep in touch with them while they are volunteering to make sure they are enjoying what they’re doing.
