SCHOOLS: Meet most basic need

| August 17, 2012 9:00 PM

I am writing today, not only as a lifetime resident of Coeur d’Alene School District 271 and a parent of two incoming Canfield Middle School students, but as a product of the double shifting that took place in 1986 and 1987 in our district. To think that our lack of safe and efficient facilities could put us back on that path makes me shudder.

The proposed bond will fix the problems of our eroding facilities, without increasing your share of property taxes that go to our schools. This bond will replace two retiring debts, making it a financial wash to vote yes.

Facilities aren’t the end all be all to obtaining the best education possible, but they definitely enhance the experience. The Coeur d’Alene School District has come so far since my days as a student, that I would hate to see our progress get stalled.

Please join me on Aug. 28 and Vote YES for our schools. Let’s keep our forward momentum on track and encourage School District 271 to be all it can be.
