SCHOOLS: For healthy environment

| August 17, 2012 9:00 PM

Proponents for the Coeur d’Alene School Bond have made an excellent case: (1) students perform better in improved school environments (http://www.parade.com/news/2012/08/12-rebuilding-americas-schools.html), (2) the schools impacted by the bond need improvement and (3) this bond is the way to do it (financially of minimal tax impact, and good for the economy).

Keep in mind under the current structure the only way building improvements can be made is through such local measures; they cannot be included in state budgets. This inflames my anti-tax, anti-spending sentiments, sentiments I know many share. Enflamed, my reaction is “No! I won’t give another dime! It may be a good cause, it may cost me very little, but on principle I won’t support any additional tax until our governments curb reckless spending.”

This, however, is the wrong spending to deny as it would hold our children’s education hostage. Instead, effect the change you want in our political process by not voting for either major party as both want 50 percent of your income; they just want to spend it in different ways. So vote for bond, to vote for educating our children…then I bet they will join us to vote out the jokers self-interestedly spending our money.
