CAMP: An act of benevolence
Since we moved to Coeur d’Alene, my daughter Emily has worked hard during the school year to earn good grades and the subsequent reward of summer camp…most specifically, theater camp.
Last school season was no different and Emily once again earned honors on her report card. Only this year, we didn’t have any money to spend on theater camp. You see, my husband, who is the primary earner in our family, has been out of work for the better part of almost three years. Any and all of the money that we have earned has gone directly to paying the monthly bills. Attending camp was absolutely out of the question.
About a month ago I was notified that someone had anonymously sponsored my child for theater camp. The whole week’s tuition was paid in full! Because of their generous gift, Emily was able to attend the Teen Show Stoppers II camp with the Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre and Jazz Hands Children’s Theater. It was a weeklong day camp with a showcase performance at Schuler Auditorium on the final day. Emily had a blast!
She learned a lot from Christopher, Steven and Emily this year. Not only about the usual singing and dancing, but about working hard to conquer something that is completely outside of your comfort zone. A lesson I am sure we can all stand to learn.
To the person who sponsored my child for camp this year, I want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. My only wish is that I will be able to “pay it forward” and pass your gift onto someone else in the future. Your kindness has touched our family deeply and it will not be soon forgotten.
