Clothing giveaway is Saturday

| August 16, 2012 9:15 PM

The 29th annual clothing giveaway at First Presbyterian Church is 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Tables and racks will be filled with gently-used and clean shoes, jeans, shirts, coats, gloves, hoodies and sweatshirts for the new school year. There will be clothes for toddlers to teens, and adults, too.

Deacons collect clothes and accept donations throughout the year. Many of the items were left behind at local schools and given to the church.

Folks are welcome to stop by. Each person receives a large plastic bag to fill.

In years past, hundreds have turned out for the event, with many lining up before the doors open.

Besides the annual giveaway, the church operates a free clothes closet 11-1 Thursday. The public is welcome to stop by.

Anyone wishing to donate clothing can drop it off at the church, 521 Lakeside Ave.

The giveaway is now referred to as the Barbara McPoland Clothing Giveaway, a longtime organizer of the event who passed away in 2009.
