Ard's bat dooms Indians
SPOKANE - Taylor Ard's RBI double sparked a four-run fourth inning to help the Everett AquaSox beat the Spokane Indians 5-1 before 3,418 on Monday in Northwest League play at Avista Stadium.
Ard's groundout in the fifth allowed Brock Hebert to score from third for a 5-0 AquaSox lead.
The Indians brought a run across in the seventh when Patrick Cantwell scored on Saquan Johnson's single.
Spokane starter Jose Valedspina was touched for four runs on five hits in four innings of work.
Everett (8-12) and Spokane (8-12) continue their series tonight at 6:30.
• Indians fall in extra innings: Patrick Kivlehan's sacrifice bunt in the top of the 12th inning proved to be the game winner as Everett beat Spokane 7-6 late Sunday night.
Mariners prospect Mike Zunino hit his 10th home run of the season, a 3-run shot in the fifth, and was immediately promoted to Double-A Jackson (Tenn.) after batting .373 in 29 games at Everett.
