PINEHURST: Set one hot example

| August 12, 2012 9:00 PM

My wife and several friends took our hot rods down to Pinehurst, a city of about 2,000, for the Comancheros 50th Anniversary car show in conjunction with Pinehurst Days this past Saturday. What an absolute blast!

Starting with a great breakfast at the Pinehurst-Kingston Lions Club, followed by the parade and ending with an outstanding car show. Nearly 300 cars were on display in what most area hot rodders consider the best car show in North Idaho. For a modest, by Car d’Alene standards, entry fee participants all receive a “goodie bag” with useful items. Participants also received a really nice poster board print of the anniversary celebration. Nearly 100 award plaques were given out, nearly 200 drawing prizes and nearly, if not more than, $1,000 given away to participants. Now THIS is how to run a car show!

The Comancheros and the city of Pinehurst are to be commended for such a great event that rewards the participants, world class for sure. The city of Coeur d’Alene might want to look a little to the east to see how to put on an excellent car show which rewards the participants, who are the draw and for all the money they spend in local businesses during the event. But they won’t.
