SCHOOLS: Vote 'yes' for bond

| August 10, 2012 9:00 PM

A great decision was made by the people of Coeur d’Alene and our school board six years ago when we chose to support Sorensen Elementary, our historic downtown neighborhood school. Some thought it was time to modernize by consolidating the students to bigger and newer schools. Fortunately, we had the sense to maintain a traditional, now 55-year-old school with a unique history and a thriving culture of art, creativity and academic success.

Today, the Sorensen Magnet School for the Arts and Humanities is a shining star of achievement and performing arts. As a parent of three kids who have gone through Sorensen developing their academic, musical and artistic talents, I’ll vote for the school bond on Aug. 28 so that we can continue to support the development of Sorensen and our other excellent neighborhood schools.
