Trustee application deadline closing in

| August 8, 2012 9:15 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - The deadline to apply for appointment to the Zone 5 seat on the school board is one week away, and as of Tuesday afternoon, just one eligible candidate had applied.

The board is seeking to appoint a trustee to replace Sid Fredrickson, who resigned from the Zone 5 position last month. Trustees declared a vacancy on the board July 23.

Board member eligibility requires a candidate be a registered voter in the school district with residency in the zone that he or she represents.

A candidate who lives in Zone 2 applied for appointment to the Zone 5 seat, but she is not eligible for consideration at this time, although she could become eligible.

Idaho Code 33-504 gives school boards 90 days after declaring a vacancy, to fill the vacant seat with a qualified individual residing within the trustee zone. If the seat cannot be filled within 90 days, the board has up to 120 days to select an appointee from at-large within the school district's boundaries.

The northern boundary of Zone 5 runs along Dalton Avenue from U.S. 95 east to 15th Street. The zone's eastern boundary extends south along 15th Street from Dalton Avenue to Garden Avenue. The southern boundary runs from the intersection of Garden Avenue and 15th Street west to Northwest Boulevard, and then the zone extends north along Lincoln Way/U.S. 95 to the intersection of Hwy 95 and Dalton Avenue.

Community members can submit an application by 5 p.m. Aug. 15 to the Clerk of the Board, Lynn Towne, at 311 N. 10th St., Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814.

Each candidate's application packet must include:

n Letter of Interest with contact information (telephone, email and residential address) that includes a statement from the candidate about his or her background; main reasons for applying for the school board trustee position and answers the following question: If appointed, what are your top three objectives? The letter must be typed, double-spaced using a 12-point font, and be no more than two pages long.

n Resume

Trustees will review all applications and discuss appointing a candidate at a public meeting scheduled for Aug. 20 at Midtown Center, 1505 N. Fifth St.
