RV resort hearing is Thursday

The Kootenai County commissioners will hold a hearing on Thursday evening over a proposed RV resort that has garnered heavy opposition.

If a conditional use permit is approved, the Ravenwood RV Resort will offer 144 RV spaces and 18 cabins on 17.2 rural acres a mile south of Silverwood on Pope Road.

Hayden general contractor Jeff Priest, co-applicant with Bob Thomas of Carson City, Nev., has said the resort would be seasonal and targeted for Silverwood recreators.

County Community Development has received 384 mailed responses from area residents about the project, nearly all in opposition. The county hearing examiner recommended approval of the project.

The hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday in room 1 of the county administration building at 451 Government Way in Coeur d'Alene.

Police officer hurt in ATV crash

An off-duty Coeur d'Alene police officer escaped serious injury and won't miss any work after crashing his ATV Sunday afternoon.

The recreation vehicle the officer was riding rolled off Bunco Road at 2:41 p.m., sliding around 50 feet down the embankment before emergency responders could aid him, according to Timberlake Fire Protection District reports.

The man, who was riding with his wife, was treated and released at Kootenai Medical Center. The woman was treated at the scene.

The officer did not want his name released, but will not miss any time at work, according to Coeur d'Alene Police Sgt. Christie Wood. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, officials said.
