BOND: A solid investment for all
I am writing in an effort to persuade my fellow Coeur d’Alene residents to pass the upcoming school bond on Aug. 28. I grew up in Coeur d’Alene and attended Sorenson, Lakes and Lake City. After college I came back to the place I call home, got a job, got married and bought a house.
My husband and I have no children, and may not have any, but we will both be voting in favor of the upcoming school bond. The bond is not just something people with kids should be in favor of — we all should be. Whether you have kids in school, are empty-nesters or have no children, we should all be looking toward the future and investing in the next generation.
These kids are the ones who will be taking care of us one day. They will be fixing your computer, managing your financial portfolio, nursing you to health in the hospital. Wouldn’t you want to give them the opportunity for a great education?
The bond will provide funds to significantly update five schools, some of which haven’t been updated since the 1950s and ‘60s. These schools are in need of new ventilation systems and updates with safety of the students in mind, and will provide technology funding to replace outdated or broken equipment.
It’s important to remember that the bond will not raise taxes as it is replacing an expiring bond. Support our students by voting “yes” on the school bond election.
