TAXES: Give us a break, Cd'A

| August 5, 2012 9:00 PM

My property value has decreased by 50 percent. Unfortunately, my income has also decreased. Have my taxes followed suit? NO!

What about all the taxes flowing into the LCDC rather than the general fund: $5,655,488 in 2011 and $5,525,111 in 2010 — each 10 times more than enough to cover the $506,905 property tax increase discussed by the mayor and City Council. That is the largest percentage, 3 percent, allowed by law (thank goodness there’s some legal restraint).

Oh, that’s right, the LCDC is using our money to help pay for McEuen Field. Funny, I don’t remember voting on that issue. Oh, that’s right again, our illustrious mayor and City Council majority decided they know what’s best for us and assured us taxes would not be increased. The budget is now in shortfall. Does this mean we’ve come full circle? I think not — it just means we’re a city of dunderheads to allow this to happen. Mayor Sandi will have her shrine to herself and we’ll have a beautiful park. I hope so, as we, the taxpayers, have been and will be paying a hefty price for quite a long time.
