Lums end run at state

LEWISTON — The Twin Falls Cowboys scored six runs in the fifth and five runs in the seventh inning to beat the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen 13-3 in seven innings, eliminating the Lumbermen from the American Legion class AA state baseball tournament on Saturday at Harris Field.
Coeur d’Alene finishes 43-11.
“It was a disappointing end to a really, really good season,” Coeur d’Alene coach Lloyd Duman said. “These young men really had a good season, and that’s why it was so disappointing — and I’m sure they’re feeling the same way. This was such an easy group to work with. They were very coachable and it was a fun year.”
Chad Nyquist hit a solo home run in the third inning, his second of the tournament for Coeur d’Alene, to cut the deficit to 2-1.
“We just didn’t respond,” Duman said. “Chad hit a home run and then we had another one of those innings where we couldn’t get an out. But when you commit five errors in a game, it doesn’t bode well.”

POCATELLO — The Burley Sox defeated the Coeur d’Alene Loggers in a loser-out game at the class A state tournament at Halliwell Park.
Coeur d’Alene finishes the season 24-24.

DeHaas hits grand slam in Lums alumni game
COEUR d’ALENE — Former Coeur d’Alene Lumberman Kaleb DeHaas hit a grand slam in the fifth inning — the final home run in McEuen Field history — as the “Home” alumni team beat the “Away” team 15-8 in a Coeur d’Alene American Legion alumni baseball game.
Rosters spanned the four decades of the program at McEuen Field.
“It was a really good turnout,” organizer Aaron Drake said. “The guys were hitting the ball hard and making some good plays in the field.”
Kurt Ramsrud hit a three-run homer for the home team, Jason Pattis doubled, singled and homered and Gus Johnson — who played for the Coeur d’Alene Gems in 1971 — singled in the fifth inning.
Ben Johnston won a home run derby before the game with eight home runs.
Eric Eilers had three singles, Bryant Sampson two doubles and Andy Oss a single and double for the Away team.
“I was really impressed and pleased with how it came together,” Drake said. “There was some wanting to do it again next year.”
