Poker tourney to benefit mother, daughter
A Texas Hold 'em poker fundraiser to benefit Post Falls' Heather Fristoe and her 1-year-old daughter Chloe will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Hooters Owl Casino in Spokane Valley along Interstate 90.
Cost is $50. There will be cash payouts for the top finishers. Seating is at 2:50 p.m. and the tournament will last until approximately 5:45 p.m.

Tim Fristoe, Heather's husband and Chloe's father, died in July at 32 unexpectedly after being admitted to Sacred Heart Medical Center with a blood infection. He received a heart transplant 12 years ago.
Fristoe graduated from Coeur d'Alene High in 1998, worked at Silverwood Theme Park for 16 years and participated in local bowling leagues and tournaments.
NIC fall semester deadline is Aug. 9
Anyone interested in attending North Idaho College during fall semester, must file an application for admission by Thursday, Aug. 9.
The application deadline will allow students time to attend an orientation session, register for classes, purchase books and pay for classes prior to the start of fall semester Aug. 27.
New students must visit www.nic.edu/admissions to download an application.

Verkist to serve LDS mission
Kyla Michelle Verkist, 21, will leave for the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah on Aug. 8, to serve an 18-month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is the daughter of Jon and Karen Verkist of Harrison.
Kyla is a 2009 graduate of Kootenai High School as well as an LDS seminary graduate. She received her Young Womanhood Award and has completed three years at BYU-Idaho, toward her degree in recreational management.
