Earlywine joins staff of Idaho men's hoops
MOSCOW - Kirk Earlywine was named the Idaho men's basketball team director of player development, coach Don Verlin announced.
Earlywine is a 26-year college coaching veteran whose latest stop was a four-year tenure as the head coach at Eastern Washington from 2007-11, where he went 42-78.
He also has had assistant coaching stops at Central Michigan and Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and a one-year tenure as coach at Division II Pfeiffer University, which he led to a 21-8 record and second-round appearance in the team's first season at that level.
In the 2011-12 season, Earlywine did television play-by-play work and spent time visiting coaching staffs around the nation. He said his time as a broadcaster and his travels gave him newer perspectives and reinvigorated his passion for the sport.
Chris Helbling, who was the Director of Basketball Operations at Idaho from 2008-12, has been promoted to assistant coach.
Chiefs add game to preseason schedule
The Spokane Chiefs have added a home game to their preseason schedule and will host the Kelowna Rockets on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. at Eagles Ice-A-Rena.
Tickets for the game, as well as individual home games for the regular season, will go on sale at the Chiefs' office on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 9 a.m.
Spokane will now play six preseason games before opening the regular season on Sept. 22 at Tri-City.
Wayne Moses joins Vandal football staff
MOSCOW - Idaho football coach Robb Akey announced the final piece of his coaching staff with the addition of running backs coach Wayne Moses, a veteran position coach with several high-profile stops.
Moses officially joined the Vandal staff on Wednesday and comes to the Vandals after most recently a four-year stint at UCLA as running backs coach. He had 32 years of college coaching experience and two more in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams from 2006-07.
His notable career stops include UCLA, Stanford, Pittsburgh, USC, Washington and Cal in the last 15 years. He was part of a coaching staff at Pitt that won the 2004 Big East Championship and advanced to the first BCS bowl in program history. While at Washington, he helped lead the Huskies to the 2000 Pac-10 title, a Rose Bowl victory and a No. 3 final ranking. He was on staff with UCLA when the Bruins advanced to the 1994 Rose Bowl.
