Roy Marshall

| August 2, 2012 9:00 PM

On July 24, 2012, in Hospice House at Hummingbird Fields, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, family and friends lost our beloved Roy. He is survived by his wife Shean, sister Loretta Gonzalez of Los Molinos, Calif., nieces and nephews and extended family.

Roy was preceded in death by parents Harold and Nellie Marshall, and sister Kathy.

Roy's career spanned over 50 years, following his decision at age 11 to become an architect. He was from the "old school,” always drawing by hand - no computer aided drafting for him! His drawings were works of art and a wonder to those who saw them. He was a perfectionist and thrived on projects that were professionally and technically demanding. His buildings won numerous awards. Being a quiet man, he always shied away from stating his accomplishments.

Roy practiced in San Francisco for many years, and spent almost 25 years as a partner with Crosby Thornton Marshall Architects, an award winning Bay Area architectural firm. Among his many projects and clients were the San Francisco Giants; the NFL (press box renovations of Super Bowl stadiums during the '80s); the city and county of San Francisco (a major renovation of Candlestick Park Stadium that withstood the '89 earthquake during the World Series), early Vail Associates and Beaver Creek projects; the United States Army, Navy and Air Force, the National Park Service, UC Berkeley (where earlier he met and spent time with Frank Lloyd Wright), Stanford University, the Marriott Hotel Corp, just to name a few.

Roy had been an active AIA member, and served as President of the Sierra Valley chapter, He also served as a board member of CCAIA. And a long time member of National Council of Architects Registration Board holding numerous state licenses.

Roy moved to Sacramento in 1987 to help wife, Shean, take care of her parents. There he met and helped Rann Haight finish ARCO Arena, home of the Sacramento Kings Basketball team. In 2002 he and Shean moved to Coeur d'Alene to collaborate with Rann on the Chamber of Commerce building, Kootenani Hospital Cancer Center in Post Falls, and his last project. Hospice House at Hummingbird Fields for Hospice of North Idaho.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Roy's memory to Hospice House at Hummingbird Fields.

A Celebration of His Life will be held in his home, 3777 N. Steven Place, Coeur d’Alene, Aug. 18 from 4-8 p.m.

Please visit Roy’s online memorial at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com and sign his guest book.
