SCHOOLS: More perfect union
On the subject of unions, this newspaper ran an editorial a few days ago painting Tom Luna and several Republican legislators as heroes of education for their efforts to discredit and dismantle the teachers union. There are really only two unions in this country that function in any way other than to represent average Americans in the work place. Those two unions involve entertainment and sports. All the other unions are about middle class America.
The central question I have for the union bashers is this: Why are you so hostile to the idea of regular working people getting a fair shake? And if an editorial discussing the Luna laws is only about improving education, why did this newspaper use this issue as a vehicle to bash unions in general?
Your words always give you away. This is not about improving education. It’s about breaking unions. Please do not try to hide this agenda behind the noble cause of educating our children. It comes off as less than genuine.
I do not belong to a union. I am a small businessman. But as an owner of a small business it is no great leap for me to recognize that a healthy middle class is good for business. Many of us need to wake up to this fact. When we promote policies that make us strong in the middle our American businesses thrive.
It’s high time we figured out this simple truth, and voted accordingly.
