ROMNEY: Can't be PC enough

| August 1, 2012 9:15 PM

Does the media ever think about its particular brand of misinformation?

I’m not even a particular fan of Mitt Romney, the nominal Republican candidate for President. However, in all fairness, I do complain about the furor the media has made over his innocuous comments regarding “disconcerting” aspects of Great Britain’s preparations for the 2012 Olympics.

There may be ongoing problems to be caused by a strike of the customs and immigration bureau personnel who have to process many foreigners as they come into Great Britain. More serious are the possible complications to be caused by the inability of the security firm, hired to protect the 2012 Olympics, to acquire sufficient trained employees.

Has the terrorist threat disappeared? Is our decades-old war with terrorists over? Did we win while I was doing something else?

There is absolutely no way for any of us to be “politically correct” enough in this day and age.

Double that conclusion for any politician, especially the two men proposing to be our leader.

In this instance, the media has taken comments seemingly meant as interesting and insightful by someone who has been there (even if “there” is in the middle of “nowhere”) and twisted them totally out of proportion to their importance.

The media seldom, if ever, censors itself but it’s always on guard to smear what anyone says that may be construed as nonpolitically correct. We could wish for a more mature and responsible media but they’ve been this way since our country began.
