Mavin William Boman, 89 1923-2012

| April 26, 2012 10:00 PM

Dad was born Feb. 25, 1923, in Cornish, Utah, to Milton and Mozell (Pitcher) Boman. He spent his early years in Lewiston, Utah, and was schooled there. He grew up in a large family with five brothers and two sisters. He spent his youth working on the family dairy where everyone pitched in and did their share.

Mavin entered the Army to serve his country in World War II in August 1944. He took his basic training at Fort Hood, Texas. He joined his company, the Eighth Armored Division, in Nancy, France. He fought in Luxemburg, Holland and Central Germany — part of “Battle of the Bulge.” He was injured and received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Combat Badge. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Mavin married Mamie Goodwin Reese in Logan, Utah, on March 8, 1949. She had two sons, Phillip (deceased) and John. Mavin and Mamie had two children, Steve and Mollie to add to the family. They also have a granddaughter, Sarah, and great-grandson, Kolby.

Mavin and Mamie bought a ranch in Careywood where the kids grew up and learned to work hard like their parents. Dad retired from Washington Water Power (now Arista Corp.) and had many funny stories about the life of a meter reader.

Mavin is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, American Legion-Coeur d’Alene and the Eagles Lodge — Hayden. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising beef cattle and gardening. He was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and loved the Oakland Raiders. He spent several winters in his RV in Arizona.

Mavin was living in Hayden at the time of his passing. We’ve lost a true patriot!

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2012, at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel, is entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Please visit Mavin’s online memorial and sign his guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
