Drug Turn-in

Day is April 28

The Coeur d'Alene Police Department is sponsoring a "Prescription Drug Turn-in Day" as part of the Drug Enforcement Agency's fourth National Pharmaceutical Drug Take Back Day, April 28.

The Prescription Drug Turn-In will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Coeur d'Alene Library. Police will be on hand during that period to receive and destroy outdated or unused prescription medication.

The purpose of "Prescription Drug Turn-in Day" is to stop the diversion of medications at the "source" and to help citizens dispose of outdated medications or medications that are no longer needed. By disposing of the items safely, it also helps our environment as they won't be flushed into the wastewater system.

"There is growing concern that personal care products and pharmaceuticals can pass through a wastewater treatment plant and end up poisoning aquatic life in our rivers and streams," said Wastewater Superintendent Sid Fredrickson. "We ask our citizens not to flush these products down the drain."

Only medications will be accepted - do not bring syringes or biohazards. Please do not bring, for example, allergy needles or needles used for injections.

Sharpies will be provided for the public to mark out any personal information on the prescription bottle. Info: 769-2320.

A medication turn-In box is now available in the lobby of the police department, 3818 Schreiber Way.

Universal peace dance on Thursday

NIUU Fellowship is beginning "Dances of Universal Peace" at Harding Family Center 15th and Wallace, on Thursday, 7-9 p.m.

Dances will continue the second and fourth Thursday through June. Donations will be accepted at the door.

"The Dances of Universal Peace are simple, meditative, joyous, multi-cultural circle dances that use sacred phrases, chants, music and movements from the many spiritual traditions of the earth to touch the spiritual essence within ourselves and recognize it in others," according to a press release.

"Building on the work begun by Samuel L. Lewis in the 1960s, they promote peace and integration within individuals and understanding and connection within groups worldwide," the release said.
