PREP TENNIS: Bulldogs blank Bears, beat Trojans

| April 22, 2012 9:15 PM

SANDPOINT - Senior Kane Wijngaarden avenged a tough loss at districts last year, downing Moscow's Hunter Levy 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1 singles to lead Sandpoint to a 12-0 dismantling of Moscow in 4A Inland Empire League tennis action Saturday at Travers Park.

"This was a revenge match for Kane," said Bulldogs coach Kent Anderson, whose team beat Moscow 9-3 earlier in the year. "I can't remember winning every match. That's a great accomplishment, because so many things can happen."

Alex Hon won 7-6 in the third set of a marathon match at No. 3 boys singles, prevailing 7-4 in the tiebreaker.

The Bulldogs followed the Moscow win with an 8-4 win over Post Falls in their second match of the day.

Post Falls' Brittany Engle won 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 over Sandpoint's Michele Rockwell at No. 1 girls singles, avenging a loss to Rockwell at the Lake City Tournament. Lincoln Hill and Cammy Saunders beat Drew Buckmiller 10-7 in a marathon third set at No. 1 mixed doubles, which the Trojans swept.

Sandpoint is at Coeur d'Alene on Monday.
