Blues rally, finish Sharks in 5

| April 22, 2012 9:15 PM

Jamie Langenbrunner and David Perron scored in a 45-second span in the third period, and the St. Louis Blues woke up in time to put away the visiting San Jose Sharks 3-1 and wrap up the first-round series in five games Saturday night.

Brian Elliott made 26 saves for the Blues, who were the first team to come from behind after two periods to win in the series.

St. Louis, the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, won a playoff series for the first time in a decade against a franchise that reached the conference finals the previous two years. Before this series, St. Louis hadn't won a playoff game in eight years.

Senators 2, Rangers 0: Craig Anderson stopped 41 shots to make Jason Spezza's first-period goal stand up, and visiting Ottawa pushed top-seeded New York to the brink of elimination with a victory in Game 5.

The Senators, the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference, have won two straight and will have a chance to knock out the Rangers on Monday night in Ottawa.

Blackhawks 2, Coyotes 1, OT: At Glendale, Ariz., Jonathan Toews scored 2:44 into overtime and Chicago staved off elimination with a victory over Phoenix.

The Blackhawks, trailing 3-2 in the series, can get even Monday night at Chicago.

Chicago's Nick Leddy scored midway through the third to tie the game at 1-all.

Panthers 3, Devils 0: At Sunrise, Fla., Kris Versteeg scored a goal and set up another, Jose Theodore made 30 saves for his second postseason shutout, and Florida moved a win away from its first series win in 16 years with a victory over New Jersey.

Scottie Upshall also scored for Florida, which leads the Eastern Conference first-round series 3-2.

New Jersey hosts Game 6 on Tuesday.

Capitals 4, Bruins 3: Troy Brouwer scored on a power play with 1:27 left, giving visiting Washington a victory and moving defending champion Boston a loss away from elimination.

Brouwer gave the Capitals a 3-2 series lead with his second goal of the playoffs, beating goalie Tim Thomas over the glove with a wrist shot from the right circle.

The Capitals can wrap up the best-of-seven series at home today (noon, KHQ).

Torres suspended 25 games: A blindside hit, a history of violence and a league-wide crackdown on rough play earned Phoenix Coyotes forward Raffi Torres one of the longest suspensions in NHL history.

Torres was suspended 25 games by the league and will miss the rest of the playoffs for a late hit that resulted in Chicago's Marian Hossa being taken off the ice on a stretcher.

Torres' suspension is the longest for an on-ice offense since New York Islanders forward Chris Simon was banned 30 games for stomping on the ankle of Pittsburgh's Jarrko Ruutu in December 2007.

Torres was suspended for two games in January for charging Minnesota Wild defenseman Nate Prosser and for four games in April 2011 for a hit to the head of Edmonton's Jordan Eberle while playing for Vancouver.
