POST FALLS - Bubba Duran pitched a two-hitter and hit a clutch two-run double as the Coeur d'Alene Vikings beat the Post Falls Trojans 6-0 in 5A Inland Empire League baseball Thursday.

Duran's double came with the Vikings (10-2, 8-0 5A IEL) leading 1-0 in the third inning. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Nick Nyquist. Levi Pereira started the scoring with an RBI single.

"Coeur d'Alene played spectacular defense," Post Falls coach Dustin Frank said. "They made some tough plays - there were two or three balls where we could have had hits, and they just made great plays.

"We played pretty darn good baseball too; we just had some errors that cost us."

Coeur d'Alene plays at Lakeland today at 4.

Post Falls hosts Lewiston on Saturday in a doubleheader.

With two out in the fourth, John Galbraith hit a three-run double down the right field line to break the game open for Lakeland.

"We had a lot of timely hitting," Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. "We stayed patient at the plate. It took a while to get adjusted to their pitching, but finally got our timing down."

James Prockish went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for Lakeland (8-3, 3-1 4A IEL), which hosts Coeur d'Alene today.

COEUR d’ALENE — J.J. Winger allowed five hits and struck out six over seven innings in the second game as the Timberwolves rallied after losing the first game to beat the Bears and split a nonleague doubleheader.

“J.J. started off the game really well,” Lake City coach Al Bevacqua said. “He pitched effectively and we started to string some hits together.”

Devin Burgess, Suraj Kedia and Sam Schultz had RBIs in the second game for Lake City (3-6), which hosts Post Falls in a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader on Tuesday.

Christian Mayfield had two hits in the first game for Lake City.

“In the second game, it took us a while to get going,” Lake City assistant coach Dan Silvas said. “Once we did, the girls kicked it up a notch. They threw us off balance by throwing a slower pitcher in the first game and their faster pitcher in the second. Once we caught up to her, we started to hit the ball really well.”

Timberlake boys win 10th straight IML title

SPIRIT LAKE — Ben Austin won the 300 hurdles and was part of the winning relays in the 4x100 and 4x400 as the Timberlake boys clinched the Intermountain League title for the 10th straight year and extend its IML win streak to 42 straight duals by beating Priest River (130.5-15.5) and Bonners Ferry (93.5-52.5) on Thursday.

Rachel Ward (100 hurdles/300 hurdles) and Ashly George (800/1,600) were double winners for the Timberlake girls, who clinched a fifth straight IML title and swept Priest River (97-49) and Bonners Ferry (82-64).

Timberlake and Bonners Ferry will compete in the Rasmussen Invitational on Saturday at Coeur d’Alene High.

Kellogg boys, girls triumph

PRIEST RIVER — Kellogg’s Teado Hulstrom won boys medalist honors, birdieing the third hole of a playoff to beat Timberlake’s Dylan Vanwingerden during an Intermountain League tournament at the Ranch Club.

Satchel Schetzle shot a 75 to finish fourth overall for St. Maries.

Kaceelyn Pouttu shot a 2-over par 74 for Kellogg to earn girls medalist honors. Maddie Hauck of Timberlake shot a 94 to finish third overall.

Kellogg won the boys and girls team titles.

Coeur d’Alene hosts Lewiston on Saturday at 9 a.m., and will face Moscow at 2 p.m.
