PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Klopatek helps Lakeland earn split

RATHDRUM - Kristin Klopatek struck out six in the second game as the Lakeland Hawks shut out the Moscow Bears in the nightcap of a 4A Inland Empire League doubleheader 5-0 after losing the first game 4-1 on Saturday at Lakeland High.

"We were able to pull it off in the second game," Lakeland coach Colleen Bevacqua said. "Moscow has a tough team this year and we were able to work out some kinks and make it happen in the second game."

Lauren Schwalbach had three hits for Lakeland (2-3, 2-0 4A IEL), which travels to Lake City on Tuesday.

SPOKANE - Brooke Albertson hit a three-run home run in a 10-run fourth inning, and also had two doubles, as the Vikings beat the Highlanders in a nonleague game.

"She just put on a hitting clinic today," Coeur d'Alene coach Larry Bieber said of Albertson. "In her first at-bat, she took the first two pitches for called strikes. I told her to find one she liked and swing away and they made a mistake and gave her one. She just had a great day today."

Chelsey Rasmussen had three RBIs for Coeur d'Alene (3-2), which hosts Post Falls on Monday.

SPIRIT LAKE - Nicole Cameron struck out 15 on the day for the Tigers in an Intermountain League sweep of the Wildcats.

Cameron had a two-run single in a six-run third inning for Timberlake in the first game and added seven strikeouts.

"Nicole did a good job of hitting her spots and keeping them off balance in the first game," Timberlake coach Mike Menti said.

Sydnie Malloy had a two-run triple in the fourth inning of the second game for Timberlake (4-2, 3-0 IML), which hosts Priest River on Tuesday.

Tarah Ivie hit a three-run home run in the second game for Kellogg (0-4, 0-2), which hosts St. Maries on Tuesday.

ST. MARIES - Dusti Huddleston went 3 for 4 with three runs scored as the Lumberjacks earned a split with the Badgers in an Intermountain League doubleheader.

In the first game, Jordan Porter struck out five and went 3 for 4 with three RBIs in the first game for Bonners Ferry. Mattea Bartling had two RBIs in the opener for Bonners Ferry (1-2, 1-2 IML).

"We just need to be a little more effective on the mound," St. Maries coach Todd Bitterman said. "We struggled a little bit in the first game and had three of our five errors in the third and fourth inning. Bonners is a good team and has improved over the years."

Kerstin Auer had a two-run single in the second game for St. Maries (1-5, 1-2), which travels to Kellogg on Tuesday.
