Second try for redistricting

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Get ready for an entirely new Idaho redistricting commission.

Secretary of State Ben Ysursa plans to meet with reporters Monday to outline a plan to resurrect the effort to draw up new political maps.

That's after the previous commission failed after 92 days of contentious and bitter meetings.

But the old commissioners likely won't be back.

According to an Idaho law modified in 2009, six new commissioners must be named because previous panelists are forbidden from serving again, except when courts intervene.

That means Idaho Senate and House leaders, and the chairmen of the Democratic and Republican parties, likely must come up with selections quickly.

Senate President Pro Tem Brent Hill learned Monday morning that he'd be naming a new panelist.

Hill says he's been making phone calls "all morning."
