Vera Mary Smith, 84

Vera Mary Smith went to be with her savior Sept. 1 2011. She was born to Pete and Hattie Carr on July 12, 1927, in Reeder, S.D.

Her parents moved from Ames, Iowa, to Reader in 1909 where they homesteaded and lived in a sod house. They moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1942. Vera graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School in 1945.

Vera married Von D. Smith from Spokane on Oct. 26, 1961. Together they raised four sons and a daughter. They bought their Post Falls home in 1972 where they resided until her passing. Vera and Von enjoyed traveling and taking care of their home, but most of all Vera cherished good friends and having family nearby.

She loved the daily crossword puzzle and any cooking show. Vera was a longtime member of the Eagles and Rebecca's.

Vera is survived by her husband, Von Smith; brother Don Carr of Coeur d'Alene; daughter Debra Deming of Rathdrum; sons Terry Holliday of Twin Lakes, Bob Holliday of Post Falls; and four grandchildren: Stacey Chambers, Erin Holliday, Nick Holliday and Derrick Holliday. She also has three great-grandchildren: Matt Chambers, Devin Chambers and Nathan Holliday.

Vera is preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Hattie Carr; brothers Francis, Glen and Vernon Carr; sisters Lula Smalacher and Anistasia Carr; and sons Bill Holliday and Mike Holliday.

No services will be held. Contributions can be made to North Idaho Hospice.
