KYRO donations adding up

COEUR d'ALENE - The community is stepping up for a new ice rink.

Matthew Beam, manager of Kootenai Youth Recreation Organization, announced Tuesday three new donations toward the $2.8 million facility, which needs about $150,000 to open.

Steve and Cherie Steele of Athol gave $1,000.

"Our 10-year-old grandson loves to play hockey," Cherie said. "We just moved here from Arizona hoping the rink would be ready for this winter season. With no rink available we have been transporting him two to three times a week to the Spokane rink. He was just notified that he has made the major Squirt team in Spokane. He is very excited but his real love would be to be able to play out of his hometown rink (KYRO)."

Two other $1,000 gifts were received from donors who wish to be anonymous.
