| October 30, 2011 9:00 PM

HAYDEN - Four vehicles on Friday were involved in an accident on U.S. 95 at Hayden Avenue, sending two drivers to the hospital, according to the Idaho State Police.

A 1992 Chevy pickup truck driven by 55-year-old Rick Johnson of Hayden was westbound on Hayden when he lost control and collided with another vehicle at the highway intersection, police said. Johnson was injured and taken to Kootenai Medical Center.

The other vehicle was driven by 35-year-old William Dodd of Coeur d'Alene. Dodd, driving a 2008 Dodge Truck, was not injured.

After colliding with Dodd, Johnson's vehicle continued into the northbound lanes of the highway and hit another vehicle, police said.

The third driver, 78-year-old Barbara Adams of Hayden, was injured and taken to Kootenai Medical Center, police said.

Adams' 1997 Toyota Camry then collided with a fourth vehicle, driven by Rick Hardy, 53, of Boise, who was not injured. He also was northbound in his 2006 Chevy Colorado pickup truck.

Police said the crash is still under investigation.

Judge puts escaped inmate's bond at $1 million

CALDWELL - A southwest Idaho judge has raised the bond for an escaped child abuser to $1 million and is questioning why jailers allowed a man facing a lengthy prison sentence to work outside of the Canyon County Detention Center.

Third District Court Judge Bradley S. Ford on Thursday said he was concerned 34-year-old Eric Lee Dominguez could harm his twin infants again.

Dominguez in August pleaded guilty to three counts of felony injury with infliction of great bodily harm after police said his 2-month-old twin boys suffered broken ribs, legs and toes, as well as head trauma that had them hospitalized in May and June.

Dominguez escaped Oct. 23 after being deemed a low security risk and going outside to help unload a truck.

Tellez seeks

new sentence

KETCHUM - A central Idaho man who pleaded guilty to killing his former girlfriend and setting her body on fire wants his life-in-prison sentence reduced, saying he was coerced into making the plea.

Freddy Tellez, 21, filed the request late last month in Blaine County 5th District, but a judge ruled Oct. 20 that he missed the May 5 deadline.

Tellez, who is incarcerated at an Idaho Department of Correction facility near Boise, has 20 days from that ruling to appeal. Cheri Hicks, his court-appointed attorney, said she has contacted Tellez to see if he had a valid reason for missing the deadline.

Parents face charges in death of daughter

RUPERT - A south-central Idaho woman is scheduled to go on trial in December on a charge of felony injury to a child related to the December 2008 death of her 3-month-old daughter.

The trial for 20-year-old Teresa Oriana Martinez begins on Dec. 13 in 5th District Court.

The girl's father has already pleaded guilty to felony injury to a child related to the infant's death in a plea agreement. Authorities said 25-year-old Jamie Lopez will testify truthfully in Martinez's trial as part of the deal as well as plead guilty to a probation violation related to a rape conviction.

The child's death is listed as a homicide due to "abusive head injury."

Court records said the Nivea Lopez's injuries were consistent with shaken-baby syndrome.

Idaho man gets 20 years for molesting 3-year-old

BOISE - A 25-year-old southwest Idaho man who pleaded guilty to molesting a 3-year-old girl has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Anthony J. Asbell was sentenced Friday in 3rd District Court and must serve at least three and a half years before becoming eligible for parole.

Asbell pleaded guilty in August as part of a deal that included prosecutors agreeing to ask for retained jurisdiction if Asbell's pre-sentence and psychosexual evaluations showed him as a low risk to reoffend.

But the evaluations put him at a moderate risk to reoffend.

Asbell will have to register as a sex offender when he gets out of prison.
