Kellogg 1

RATHDRUM - Hailey Emerson and Mercedes McComb scored in the first half as the third-seeded Tigers beat the top-seeded Wildcats on Saturday in the championship match of the 3A District 1 tournament at the Rotary Soccer Complex.

Both teams had already qualified for state.

"It was huge for us," Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. "It was homecoming week and the girls were a little nervous, but really rose up to beat Kellogg like that."

Tina Holt had eight saves for Timberlake (8-7-2), which faces Teton (13-1-2) to open the state tournament on Thursday at Vallivue High in Caldwell.

Kianna Aros scored on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute for Kellogg (9-2-3), which faces Community School on Thursday.

"We couldn't quite find the net in the second half," Kellogg coach Steve Mills said. "It's not the way I wanted to end the tournament, but Timberlake earned it today. Steve (Michael) has moved them a long way throughout the season. Timberlake played an outstanding tournament."
