NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY LAKEVIEW-REEDER DRAFT SUPPLEMENTAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT USDA Forest Service, Idaho Panhandle National Forests, Priest Lake Ranger District The Lakeview-Reeder Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) is complete and ready for public review and comment. The Draft SEIS updates information in the 2009 Final EIS. The project proposes to treat hazardous forest fuels near the community of Nordman, Idaho, and residential areas near Granite Creek, Kalispell Creek, Reeder Creek and Reeder Bay along the west side of Priest Lake. These treatments are proposed to decrease the risk of a wildfire negatively impacting the community and residential areas, and to improve forest health by reducing the threats from intense wildfires and insect and disease infestations. The Responsible Official for this project is Idaho Panhandle National Forests' Supervisor Mary Farnsworth. The Draft SEIS is available on CD, and online at www.fs.usda.gov/goto/ipnf/projects. This project is an authorized fuel reduction project as defined by the Healthy Forest Restoration Act of 2003, section 101(2). Project-specific comments on the Draft SEIS must be postmarked or received no later than 45 days from the date the notice of availability (NOA) is published in the Federal Register which is expected on, or around December 2, 2011. If oral comments are provided, they must be provided during normal business hours (Monday- Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding federal holidays) via telephone or in person. Comments may be submitted electronically to: ajhelgenberg@fs.fed.us. The subject line must contain the name of this project: Lakeview-Reeder SEIS. Acceptable formats are MS Word or RTF. For electronically mailed comments, the sender should receive an electronic acknowledgement of the receipt of comments. It is the sender's responsibility to ensure timely receipt by other means. Comments received in response to this solicitation, including names and addresses of those who comment, will be considered part of the public record on these proposed actions and will be available for public inspection. Comments submitted anonymously will be accepted and considered. Additionally, pursuant to 7 CFR 1.27(d), any person may request the agency to withhold a submission from the public record by showing how the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) permits such confidentiality. Persons requesting such confidentiality should be aware that, under the FOIA, confidentiality may be granted in only very limited circumstances, such as to protect trade secrets. The Forest Service will inform the requester of the agency's decision regarding the request for confidentiality, and where the request is denied; the agency will return the submission and notify the requester that the comments may be resubmitted with or without name and address within 30 days.
