COEUR d'ALENE - Sydney Williams scored a game-high 22 points as the top-ranked 5A Coeur d'Alene Vikings beat the Moscow Bears 65-32 in their season opener on Tuesday at Elmer Jordan Court.

"It was a pretty balanced night," Coeur d'Alene coach Dale Poffenroth said. "Kyeli (Parker) went 4 for 4 from the floor with two steals and four assists, but nobody had any huge stats, which is good and kind of the way it has to be."

Erin Legel and Caelyn Orlandi had 10 points apiece for Coeur d'Alene, which travels to Post Falls on Thursday in a game moved up a night to accommodate the Vikings' state 5A championship football game.

"It was a good start for us," Poffenroth said. "I thought everyone played well and life after (Carli) Rosenthal started really well."

Abi Quinnett, who signed with Idaho, scored 16 points for Moscow.

POST FALLS — Dani Failor went 7 for 8 from the field and scored 17 points in the Trojans’ season-opening win over the Bulldogs at The Arena.

The Trojans (1-0) had a balanced scoring attack behind Failor. Lexi Smith scored eight, and Brooke Litalien, Sam Runkle and Rai Franklin each had six.

“I think for our first game we did well,” Allert said. “Our defense did a good job pressing and causing turnovers leading to easy baskets.”

Maggie Kirscher led the Bulldogs with 17 points. Hailey Olin had 12.

“Olin and Kirscher do a good job of getting open and making shots,” Allert said. “I think they (Sandpoint) are going to be good. They are going to get better.”

Kirsten Scheffelmaier had seven points for Kootenai in the loss.

“Kootenai has a good bunch of girls and they will be tough down the stretch,” Grant said. “But this win is really good. We are really young and it was good to see the girls go out and play strong from the get-go.”
